Univision to Sponsor Latina View Panel at May 18 Latinas & Power® Symposium Hartford, CT
Hartford, CT, May 3, 2017 – The 2017 Latinas & Power® Symposium announced that Univision Communications Inc. (UCI), the leading media company serving Hispanic America, will sponsor the Latina View panel during this year’s Latinas and Power® symposium.  The panel, a hallmark segment of the Latinas & Power Symposium, will discuss the importance of Latinas getting involved in leadership roles. Moderated by Univision News’ Primer Impacto correspondent, Nayeli Chavez-Geller, “Latina View” will broadcast nationally via Primer Impacto’s Facebook channel.
“The mission of the panel is to call Latinas to action particularly in the face of a mercurial political environment where too much seems uncertain. We want to encourage Latinas to join the Women’s Movement, to take leadership roles within their own communities and to run for public office. More than ever, we need to know where to go for information so we can make informed decisions and make our voices count, ” stated Marilyn Alverio, producer and founder of the event now in its 14th year.
Joining Nayeli, are panelists Marilyn Alverio, creator of Latinas & Power; Yvette Baez, vice president of Integrated Marketing, UCI; Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, social entrepreneur; and Dr. Leslie Torres-Rodriguez, superintendent, Hartford Public Schools.  In addition to the Latina View panel speakers, other workshop speaker highlights include; Diana Zuluaga, founder of Jet D’OR, a charter jet company, and Karla Medina, owner of Sudor Taino, a group fitness center.
“Latinas are powerful women who many times lead from behind. We wish to urge them to take their rightful place in the frontlines of leadership so they, too, can lend their voices to those who wish to preserve the American democratic way of life. Like most mothers, Latinas are very concerned about the kind of world their children will inherit if the present course of events is left unchecked,” stated Dr. Leslie Rodriguez, the new Superintendent of Hartford schools, who is one of the panelists and a prominent woman in her own right who grew up in Hartford and obtained her doctorate from Central Connecticut State University. She continued saying, “Women need to be informed, to stay up on what’s happening and to get involved.”
This year’s event, titled: Leading in a Complex World: Why Your Voice Matters More Today Than Ever! will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the Hilton Hotel in Hartford, CT.  Latinas & Power® is New England’s largest network of its kind, and one of the most prestigious east coast events that inspire women with its annual presentation of empowering workshops, motivational speakers, a career expo, a business and an abundance of networking activities.
Travelers, a returning corporate sponsor believes the event is good for their employees which is one of the reasons they leverage it as a professional development and morale-enhancing opportunity. This  is a phenomenal opportunity to learn, grow and get inspired!” stated  Fred Colon, Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer and Head of Enterprise Organization Effectiveness

About Latinas & Power® Symposium
In its 14th year, the Latinas & Power Symposium brings marketplace and career opportunities together with the Latina market. Our goal at Latinas & Power is to help our business partners and companies become successful in reaching this fertile and under-served demographic.  We offer professional development sessions on building wealth, personal growth, entrepreneurship and career building.  In 2006, we added a youth track that offers high school student workshops designed for them in mind and that take place parallel to the adult workshops.
We anchor the event by presenting powerful Latina motivational speakers and celebrities from across the U.S. who share their stories of challenges and opportunity. The exceptional networking opportunities unite women in a spirit of camaraderie and enable us to attract Latinas who are often difficult to reach though traditional channels.
The event, incubated in Hartford, Connecticut in 2004, is the largest of its kind in New England and has reached upwards of 8,000+ women since its inception. The ability to have personal interaction with attendees is an attractive draw for sponsors and exhibitors. It is a high-energy event that offers professional development workshops and themed panels with representatives from our various sponsors. We place great emphasis on professional development and leadership skills to support women in achieving success in these areas.
To date, the Latinas & Power Symposium has impacted thousands of Latina professionals from across the country. Our mission is to inspire, motivate, encourage and enable Latinas to become leaders.  We believe that sharing strategies for success is a responsibility that each of us can take on in our own style.  Over the course of the next few decades, Latinos will be the profile of American society through business, politics, sports, entertainment, fashion, food and academic achievements. We are delighted that here in New England, we are a part of this movement.
