Portugal Named Most Welcoming Country for Expatriates as TAP Air Portugal Debuts New Safety Video Celebrating Immigrants

NEW YORK -- The Portuguese are famously friendly and welcoming - just ask the many ex-pats from around the world who have moved to Portugal and named it the most welcoming country in the world! Portugal just won the honor through InterNations' annual Ex-Pat Insider Survey naming the country as 2018's favorite 'second home.'

InterNations surveys the best destinations for expatriates to live and work abroad each year. Portugal was in 9th place just two years ago but is now on the top of the list, followed by Taiwan and Mexico. It is these newcomers to Portugal who voice TAP Air Portugal's new airline safety video.

TAP's new video, "Portugal: a country where the sun chooses to live," was produced in partnership with the Portuguese National Tourist Office and celebrates both the wide diversity of expats now living in Portugal but also the beauty of the country. Naturally the video still focuses mainly on the safety rules aboard the aircraft but it's the citizens of the world who are the central characters and narrators. And through their eyes, the film highlights the Portugal's unique and distinctive beauty.

The survey is based on data on the friendly attitude of locals towards foreigners, the likelihood of the expats to wish to live in the country their whole life, and the ease of making local friends, together with the cost of living and safety in the country. Almost every expatriate living in Portugal (94%) says they feel welcomed by the local population and includes many Portuguese locals in their circle of friends.

The climate, the cuisine, the relatively cheap cost of living compared to the rest of Europe and its great landscapes, from beaches to mountains, are also some of the reasons attracting foreigners to Portugal. The quality of life in this peaceful country makes 47% of those surveyed consider moving definitely to Portugal.

The survey reached around 13,000 expats living in 188 different countries to get the world's top 10 most welcoming nations.

About TAP Air Portugal
TAP is Portugal's leading airline and a member of the global airline Star Alliance since 2005. Flying since 1945, TAP celebrated its 70th anniversary on March 14, 2015, before completing its privatization process later that year, now with the Atlantic Gateway Group as private shareholders.

As of Summer 2017, TAP's network comprises 84 destinations in 34 countries worldwide. The airline currently operates around 2,500 weekly flights, with a modern fleet of 63 Airbus aircraft. TAP Express, the airline's regional arm, operates an additional 17 aircraft.

With TAP's privatization process, it has restructured its network, launched new fare products and is renewing its medium and long-haul fleet. TAP has 53 Airbus neo aircraft on order and, by 2020, it's long-haul fleet will either have been replaced with new aircraft or newly reconfigured aircraft. TAP Express now operates a new fleet of 8 ATR 72 and 9 Embraer 190.

TAP is one of Europe's most awarded airlines.  Global Traveler (USA) named TAP as Best Airline in Europe from 2011 to 2016, and the World Travel Awards named TAP as both Europe's Leading Airline to Africa and Europe's Leading Airline to South America from 2014 - 2017. Previously TAP was awarded World's Leading Airline to Africa, in 2011 and 2012, and World's Leading Airline to South America from 2009 through 2012.
