Marc Strachan to Receive Outstanding Alumnus Award Mar 18; Helps Launch Adelphi Multicultural Scholarship Fund

Marc S. Strachan, VP Corporate Relations, Constituent Affairs, Diageo N.A. and Adelphi University Class of '81 will be recognized by the University's Board of Trustees and President on March 18th at Adelphi University's President's Gala as the Outstanding Alumnus of 2017. The annual Gala is the University's largest fundraising event, supporting student scholarships. Marc Strachan as the honoree and at his initiative, is establishing a scholarship for incoming and currently enrolled Multicultural students.

All proceeds donated on Strachan's behalf will go directly towards this scholarship which will be known as the Adelphi Alumni Multicultural Scholarship. Adelphi will maintain the scholarship in perpetuity, if at least $25,000 is raised.

Last year's Gala, was a tremendous success, with close to 500 people in attendance and raising over $550,000 for student scholarships at Adelphi.  "This year's Gala promises to be another spectacular event and I am honored to be a part of it as the Recipient of the President's Award for 2017 "Outstanding Alumnus," said Marc S. Strachan.

"I have asked the University and they have agreed to allow the net proceeds raised through my efforts to be designated to endow a scholarship fund specifically for multicultural students that will provide financial support for young people who were like me when I attended Adelphi, just trying to move myself forward," said Strachan.

Strachan currently serves as the vice president of Corporate Relations and Constituent Affairs at Diageo North America. Diageo is a global leader in beverage alcohol with an outstanding collection of brand names. The London-based company has a presence in over 180 countries and employs more than 32,000 people.

Adelphi University's 17th Annual President's Gala on Saturday, March 18, 2017, to be held at The Garden City Hotel, in Garden City (Long Island), New York, will be an elegant black-tie evening of Cocktails, Dinner and Dancing.  At the President's Gala individuals who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to the University and the larger community are recognized. This event draws the region's top civic, business, and community leaders, as well as Adelphi trustees, alumni and friends, students, administrators, faculty and staff, to celebrate our honorees and the University.

Along with Marc S. Strachan '81, this year's honorees are Shorelight Education and The Adelphi University Women's Giving Circle, with special tributes to the 2016 Class of 10 Under 10 and the Class of 1967.
